Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the psychological, pedagogical, and social mechanisms that encourage the participation of international students in research activities at higher education institutions. The purpose of the study is to identify motivational factors, pedagogical support mechanisms, and the organizational opportunities of the university environment that contribute to increasing international students’ interest in research activities, as well as to theoretically and empirically substantiate their interrelation.

The findings of the study show that participation in research activities contributes to the development of students’ professional competencies, enhances their critical and creative thinking, and supports the realization of their personal potential and self-fulfillment. In addition, research engagement was found to have a positive impact on the intercultural adaptation of international students and their successful socio-intellectual integration into the university environment.

The research methodology was based on a comprehensive design combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire developed on the Google Forms platform, semi-structured interviews, and systematic observation. The survey results were processed in Microsoft Excel by calculating percentages, identifying comparative indicators, and visualizing the data through charts. Qualitative data were analyzed using the content analysis method. Comparative analytical methods were applied to compare the results of the control and experimental groups.

A total of 118 international students participated in the empirical study: 59 students were assigned to the control group and 59 students to the experimental group. The research findings demonstrated that the level of students’ participation in research activities is directly related to the quality of pedagogical support, the effective organization of the motivational environment, and the productivity of interaction with the research supervisor. In the experimental group, where the intervention program was implemented, a significant increase in research motivation, academic confidence, and research activity was observed.

The study established that the actualization of international students’ research potential is an important factor in improving the quality of education within the higher education system. The practical significance of the study lies in proposing a model for effectively involving international students in research activities in the university context.
