Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the specific features of developing reading comprehension skills among primary school students in the context of the modern educational environment. The paper reveals ideas, approaches, and directions related to the development of reading literacy as the foundation of students’ cognitive and learning activities. Special attention is paid to the teacher’s role in organizing the process of reading comprehension, selecting texts of various genres, and using interactive technologies that promote conscious comprehension and interpretation of information. The scientific and practical significance of the study lies in identifying effective pedagogical conditions, methods, and techniques that contribute to the development of critical, analytical, and creative thinking in younger students. The methodological basis of the research includes observation, analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature, surveys of teachers and students, as well as diagnostics of the level of reading comprehension skills among primary school children. The findings demonstrate that systematic and purposeful work on the formation of reading skills significantly increases interest in reading, develops speech, attention, and memory, and improves the overall quality of learning. The practical value of the research lies in the applicability of the proposed methodological recommendations in teaching practice and in integrating reading comprehension into all academic subjects and school educational activities.
