The article is devoted to the problem of developing the research competence of future sign language teachers through independent work. The work of students on scientific work is currently a very urgent problem. On this basis, the qualitative performance of independent work provides for the possibility of obtaining higher education. The purpose of the study is a theoretical methodological justification of the development of the research competence of future sign language teachers through independent work, the development of a methodology and experimental verification of its effectiveness, the provision of scientific and methodological recommendations. During the research work, mixed research methods were used: qualitative and quantitative. Students of 2-3 courses were included in the study. The results of the survey revealed contradictions in the development of research competencies of future specialists through independent work.
