Abstract

The article addresses the relevant issue of using the capabilities of artificial intelligence in the process of teaching foreign languages in higher education institutions. The digital transformation of education defines artificial intelligence as a key tool for modernizing the learning process. The paper examines the main advantages and pedagogical potential of artificial intelligence in teaching language-related specialties, as well as analyzes the possible limitations and risks of its application in the educational environment. Special attention is paid to the capabilities of chatbots that can adapt educational content to the level of language proficiency, educational needs, and interests of students. The survey also emphasizes the role of artificial intelligence in the development of written and lexical- grammatical skills. A review of the most popular artificial intelligence platforms used for learning English, such as

ChatGPT, Duolingo, Babbel, Mondly, and Replika.ai, made it possible to analyze their functional and pedagogical potential. The empirical part of the study is based on the results of a questionnaire survey conducted among second-year students of the educational program “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” at the Central Asian Innovative University (Shymkent). The survey aimed to determine the level and nature of the use of artificial intelligence tools in the process of learning English, including the acquisition of professional vocabulary and grammar, completion of written tasks (essays and business letters), development of speaking skills, and performance of homework assignments. The collected data were processed using quantitative methods and presented in percentage terms. Based on the research findings, conclusions are drawn about the feasibility of using chatbots and other AI-based tools as supplementary means of teaching foreign languages in the context of the digital transformation of higher education.
